About The Process

BEFORE THE CONFERENCE They will practice through role-play how to led the conference using a data binder.
1. Teacher explains and models leading conferences. 2. Student sets an academic goal, a social/behavior goal and a personal achievement goal 3. Student explains, teaches and models for Parents how to navigate this website and their specific course webpage. 4. Student works bell to bell in class, following all Studio Habits, visits Weebly Page to view syllabus, complete required homework, and remains after school on Thursday as needed for extra help. 5. Students organize Portfolio, practice script, write "Missing Assignment" reports 2 days before conference. 6. Student/ Parent confirms date and person who will actually be attending conference on the Conference Record Form and submits to Ms. Purvis 7. Teacher Schedules Date on Master Schedule and informs office. 8. Students will bring home Conference Notification for Conference to remind parent. |
DURING THE CONFERENCE1. Students setup Conference space, check materials and get themselves ready emotionally for presentation.
2. Introduce Parent to Teacher and Teacher to Parent 3. Teacher gives parents progress report (includes any missing assignments) and sample guiding questions list. 4. Student escorts parent to presentation area, reads Thank You Letter and explains why this conference is important to them, and what they will present during conference. 5. Students follow script for either high school or middle school grade level. 6. Parents use guiding questions, progress reports and student presentations to assess the work being done in class. 7. Parents model by raising hand to ask their children questions about portfolio items being presented. 6. Students read My Missing Assignment Report and explain how they intend to make up work. 7. Parent and Students discuss, set and complete Our Goals Form. 8. Complete Parent Conference Survey 9. Student completes Conference Reflections |
AFTER THE CONFERENCEYou will have a better understanding of how your child feels about education, learns best, and what excites them about their classes.
1. Parents and Students talk about what they learned from each other, the conference experience, and make plans at home to support the goals they set in the conference. 2. Complete Parent Homework. 3. Teacher and Students discuss conference, survey items and talk about what needs improvement and how students feel. 4. Teacher sets a professional goal, a personal goal and a goal for classroom. 5. Teacher/Students share quarterly goals in an organized open class discussion. Students think about obstacles, how to remove obstacles, and brainstorm ways to support each other. 6. Teacher/Students set Goals for class. 7. Parents you will make a goal with your child to help them at home, and I will make a goal with them for the classroom. Goals may be simple as moving a table closer to the window so they can draw using natural light. Then we start the cycle over.. |
